Munich is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer gardens.
If you are coming from Berlin, take the train from Berlin to Munich, beautiful countryside views! Well worth the 5 hour trip!
Such a historic, cultural city. Very surreal and creepy knowing this is the birthplace of Nazi Germany. Our British tour guide showed us all the spots Hitler used to gain political power. It seems like history isn’t discussed or talked about much and the original buildings are something new today.
Germany’s history is dynamic, and the walking history (click link for tour details) tour brought so much awareness and newfound knowledge of Germany’s turbulent and resilient history. Considering high school European history feels like ages ago for me, it was a nice way to develop a foundational understanding of what took place along with the lasting implications and repercussions to this day.
The city was clean and very efficient. They certainly leave no room for any happy-go-lucky vibes. Everything is extremely time-driven and forward moving with a strong sense of structure. Oh, and the pedestrians do NOT seem to have any right of way here! It felt like no one is going to break rules or cross the streets without the green man as Rita would call it.
Neuschwanstein Castle was one of my favorite day trip (Click link for tour details), thank you Jay for suggesting it. The castle was gorgeous ,and I enjoyed the hike to the castle and having wine near the castle. Oh and Charlie was a great tour guide and kept everyone on schedule. He made sure no one was going to be late when he asked us to meet at a specific spots throughout the day.
Charlie, our tour guide from London, made the day engaging and exciting! I appreciated his ability to tell stories and share the history of the castle in a digestible and relatable way. It was truly like story time! We all know history wasn’t my forte in school! If you find yourself with a free day in Munich, this day trip is definitely worth it.
Food wasn’t all that but the beer and drinks were great!
Charlie was the MVP lol
