The city if filled with cobble stone roads, and lots of bright flowers everywhere. People seemed very content, and just seem to enjoy being there. Lots of American Retirees who discovered this little gem years before and decided to retire in SMA.
Flying into BJX Airport, we arranged for a private transfer, Vincente and his friend, we head out for San Miguel de Allende, got to stop for local tacos/quesadillas…
We drop our bags We drop our bags at our Airbnb (3 story hacienda like house, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, huge terrace and a hot tub on the roof) and start walking around…. Jardin Allende (Park Square) with beautiful views of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel, majestic church.
Walking around we find one of several markets Ignacio Market, fresh juices and street food galore!
Day 2, we have our Food tour, a staple activity for our group. Before we start, we have time for a cold beer. We find this beautiful little terrace with flowers everywhere (Casa Rosada Hotel), super serene and peaceful!
Food tour starts! We meet Omar, he is from the US but now lives in SMA, he tells us to try Don Tequila tacos, vegan restaurant with chorizo tacos that are better than the real thing (what ever??), and cauliflower tacos (again, whatever??). He tells us to also try the Jicama Tacos at La Azotea – another beautiful rooftop place!
Food stops at several places, La Concina, La Parroquia, Chocolates y Churros San Agustín and ice cream cart…. We tasted Mole enchiladas, tostadas, ice cream, and chocolate Churros – Yum!
Breakfast at Lavanda Café, waited an hour to get into this famous place, very good brunch place (No mimosas though)
Mercado de Artesanias – this is the art market, more like local trinket market.
Local Market – Mercado de San Juan Dios, this market happened to be around the corner from our Airbnb, super local, fresh fruits, juices etc, we had lunch here for $16 bucks (7 people), accidentally found this place while getting coffee at a local shop and this lady started talking to us, she buys and renovates homes and now lives in SMA. She guided us to this local market, and we came for lunch a couple of days later.
We had a half day to spend on Day 5, so we decide to walk to the Fabric / Textile area. Good 20 minute, walk (in the heat, LOL), but we make it there, nice area converted from Textile manufacturing to now high end art galleries, small wine tasting, and outdoor café. Great place for a drink and snacks.
We hit several rooftop bars, the views of the city were beautiful. The weather was awesome, very warm during the day and just chill during the evenings. Quince, Antonia Bistro, the Rooftop at Selina, but the best one was the Rosewood Hotel, gorgeous hotel with 360 degree views.
Great town with nice vibe, just some various pictures of the town.
On our way out, we stop at the Leather town (Leon), this is more of larger busy city, with lots of shopping stalls. Nice lunch and then off to the airport.
