Brussels, Belgium

The City of Brussels is the largest municipality and historical centre of the Brussels-Capital Region, as well as the capital of Belgium. It is also the administrative centre of the European Union, and is thus often dubbed, along with the region, the EU’s capital city.

The cityscape swings from majestic to quirky to rundown and back again. Art deco facades face off against 1960s concrete developments, and regal 19th-century mansions contrast with the shimmering glass of the EU’s Gotham City.

Wow the main Square…. filled with buildings that were used as Guild houses (trade unions) the more ornate the building the richer that trade union was!  Meat/” butchers guild “apparently made alot of money back then.   This Square is probably the most impressive in Europe!

We strolled by the hotel we stayed at in 2014… me, Ami, Sue and Kit.

Walking Tour of Hidden Gems(Click on link for details)

Our tour guide was from Sri Lanka but born in Germany

He travels for work and decided to stay in Brussels when he came here as he loved it.
Great lifestyle
Fresh food Great culture cost of living is pretty good for Europe.   Taxes are high but quality of life is worth it.

G and Shanti talked about cricket alot as he was a fan!

This was a hidden gem tour so he took us to some interesting off the beaten track sites.  Like the site of an old church then meat market  that is now a beer bar and museum.   This was the spot where the city of Brussels started
The city was hadcalot rivers which are now covered and is the city as it is now.

We visited the Royal Palace area which had a beautiful panoramic view of the City.

We stopped at a cookie shop…. the Original gingerbread cookie!

We saw several sides of building with a cartoon mural!  Commissioned by the city!

Of course a stop at the chocolate shop BTW.. this is the shop that exclusively serves the Royals of Brussels
Wow, just wandered upon this restaurant called Drug Opera,  had lunch here on patio and we went in to discover an amazing place.  It’s like time stood still here!
