Per Google “Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, between England and France. A self-governing dependency of the United Kingdom, with a mix of British and French cultures, it’s known for its beaches, cliff side walking trails, inland valleys and historic castles. The Jersey War Tunnels complex, in a former hospital excavated by slave labor, documents the island’s 5-year German occupation during WWII.”
Condor Ferries…. Wow.. they actually called me
to make sure I was on my way. Made the
mistake of taking a bus and came in late to ferry terminal
The ferry was great, super clean, lots of
places to sit in comfy chairs and 3 cafes!
Great hour and a half experience!
New country so must do immigration check!!
We arrive into St Helier UK. Just like that 1 hour time difference. Not much is open at that hour.. 7am I find a
nice coffee shop and plant myself down to come up with a game plan for the day.
My list included:
La Corbière – lighthouse
St Breladys Bay
Plemont Beach
St Helier
Jersey War Tunnels
Portelet bay caféCafe…
These are all over the island… luckily major bus station is
just 5 minute walk. Let’s start at the
bay as I can have breakfast there. Made
reservations for 1130am at the Portelet bay café, which is supposed to be on
the beach and only way to get there is steep steps (I know what you are
thinking 🤔 😉).
Find the right bus and head out… while on bus I see a cute little town. So I hop off! Will catch the next bus.
Stop at St Aubin… I walk around looks pretty….but not much
going on. So jump back on bus.
Next stop, St Breladys Bay
Another beautiful area… beach views… breakfast time
overlooking the bay.
Gorgeous flowers.. Winston Churchill memorial park.
Next bus is too far away… taxi shows up to drop off some Canadians who apparently pissed off the driver cause they made fun of the USA and he didn’t get the connection. Anywho. He was great… I told him to the lighthouse. He then said I should definitely check out Gorey Pier… one of the most beautiful areas on the island. So add that to the list. Remove Tunnels and beach cause all these are in opposite directions.
The lighthouse is something out of a Thomas Kincaid painting. Breathtaking.
After lighthouse is lunch at the Portelet bay café. Bus to it. But then a hike to the Café! Pizza is average but the views and the bay
are beautiful. Well worth the struggle
to get there.
From here walk back up and to Gorey! Had to get a taxi as buses were just way too
long of wait and drive and I needed to be back at ferry terminal in St
Helier.
My taxi driver was a whole experience. Her and I talked for the entire ride. She is from Jersey but has traveled quite a
bit. She recently spent 1 month of her
vacation time to help out in Zambia. She
helped kids down there with her friend and friends family.
Wow… awesome. So we
spend the time talking about traveling, politics (both Jersey and Texas),
people etc. BTW She went to Texas 35
years ago and she liked it. I said it’s
quite different place now. She used to
work in Finance and made good money but now she loves driving people around and
meeting people from everywhere. She says
she learns something new everyday. Her
groorgueilwn daughter wants to go to Africa and volunteer her time to work with
children for room and board only. Wow. As her career!
Great experience
Gorey! Yes a great
area… great recommendation! Beautiful views from the Mount Orgueil
I finish my trip walking around St Helier…all the shops are
open now… very lively place.
Back to the Ferry to France!
Great day in UK!
