“The History
Of The Palace
The Palace of
Versailles is one of the most extraordinary achievements of 17th century
European architecture. Initially constructed as a hunting lodge for King Louis
XIII, the royal family’s love for the estate saw the movement of the royal
court from Paris to Versailles in 1682 by King Louis XIV, Louis XIII’s son. The
hunting pavilion was transformed into a regal complex with ornate rooms,
landscaped gardens and magnificent fountains.
For decades,
the french royals continued to embellish the palace and rule from Versailles.
It wasn’t until the French Revolution that the royal court was forced to move
back to Paris. The palace also witnessed the signing of the most important of
all peace treaties that brought World War I to an end.”
Amazing Palace with so much history
I watched the series which put a visit to the Palace on my list to see.
The hall of mirrors is spectacular
6 years to cover the Terrace! To become the Hall of mirrors.
The art work alone puts most museums to shame!!
The Palace rooms are pretty much setup like any other Palace
each room had a purpose.
Now the main part of the Palace are the gardens…. Never seen
anything like it! No real way to capture
it with pictures or video!
As palaces go Louis XIV takes the cake and the icing!
BTW I did have a few challenges with the trains. They don’t always run on time so make sure you have enough time on between any connections. I actually missed my times lot at the palace but luckily they were ok with the tardiness!
Also avoid July and August… the crowds are insane. I basically ran through the Palace because it
was just too crowded to be instead with that many people. Masked up and quickly got out.
The little old parts of town are really nice as well, great
area to chill on a patio and have some lunch.
