Per Britannica.com “Uniquely among Italy’s chief cities, Venice came into being after the fall of the Roman Empire in the West. The Lombard hordes, whose incursions into northern Italy began in ad 568, drove great numbers of mainlanders onto the islands of the lagoon, previously the homes of itinerant fishermen and salt workers.”
Venice
Venice Venice just gorgeous…no words can truly describe how beautiful this
medieval city is.
I
arrive in the morning and take a bus to the main station in Venice. Only water taxis from there on. I decide to walk to the airbnb. Beautiful walk… into small alley ways! My
airbnb has a view of the canal. Beautifully
modern yet had Roman columns in the apartment.
Lots
of local shopping areas … outdoor cafes with just beautiful views everywhere.
Looking
for that perfect ravioli we had in 2004 when we came last time. No luck but the ravioli I did have was great!
I
then wander around to see if I can find the little place we stayed at last
time… the door didn’t really have a name or anything… I’m pretty sure this was
it! There was a bar on the ground floor
where Ami enjoyed some wine! She didn’t
like the first one the waiter brought her something else to try! Great memories here.
To
top off I take a quick gondola ride to walk around the St Mark’s square. The
iconic square that is shown in all movies that are set in Venice
Next
morning…. Prosecco tour. (separate blog)
Beautiful
meal for dinner then off to bed! Seema
Ketan and Boys arrive in the morning
Their
hotel is 1 minute walk from my airbnb and I spot their water taxi from the
window. They come over to my pad to
freshen up and enjoy a nice bottle of prosecco I bought from the tour!
Then off we go to explore Venice!
Every turn is a wow!
Just a beautiful city
Visit
to the Palace and Museum
The
last exhibit basically shows how insane the USA has become.
We
couldn’t tell if they were making fun of us, mocking us, or just horrified by
what has been happening in the USA the past 6 years!
We
feel embarrassed…we now say we are from Canada instead! Lol
Great
time with Family. Missed Ami even more
because of all memories that came back from our 2004 trip! Always in my
thoughts as I travel! She taught me to
travel solo. I would have never done
this trip without channeling her every step of the way! Miss you beyond life. Keep attacking me with your bee friends!
No
Trip to Venice is complete without a Gondola Ride!!!
This is on my list and I know I will be going to Italy again…love Italy! Great photos and post Rita.
